Slave I may appear unique because of its distinctive shape, but it started life as a Kuat Systems Engineering Firespray -class police vessel. This interceptor is the kind made for patrolling the prison planet of Oovo IV. Fett reasoned that a starship designed to thwart some of the galaxy's most hardened criminals would be excellent for his unusual line of work. Slave I has a distinctive shape making it instantly recognizable. Its large engine cluster dominates the lower section of the ship when docked, with the cabin resting atop it. Once airborne, the Slave I pivots 90 degrees, so that its base becomes its trailing edge and its top-mounted cockpit faces forward. The advanced technology on board is not restricted to the weaponry. The flight decks surveillance equipment is first class and the large variable-opacity windshield allows superb range of vision. Jango deftly pilots this agile craft through the asteroid field surrounding Geonosis. Obi-Wan Kenobi finds it hard to follow, and avoid this ships advanced weapon systems.

In time, Boba will become the sole pilot of
Slave I
and give the ship a distinctive new livery. The unmistakable
Slave I
becomes almost as notorious as its ruthless bounty-hunting owner, and is the means by which Boba transports the captured Han Solo from Bespin to Tatooine.
